M Pigneguy replied to Julian Joy’s letter to Professional Skipper Magazine

M Pigneguy replied to Julian Joy’s letter to Professional Skipper Magazine saying he was aware that many commercial skippers have the same feelings regarding the legal nonsense over the Antaeus/Gypsy collision & sinking but as to the Seaway/Classique case, Bolton clearly disregarded Maritime Rules 22.15 & 22.16 & if Seaway hadn’t stopped, there would’ve been a collision. After he (M Pigneguy) put in his report, it was MNZ’s decision to prosecute & he was just a witness. It was Bolton’s choice to be unrepresented & due to lack of legal & maritime knowledge wasted 2 & a half days of court time. Apart from having to go astern to avoid collision, there was no drama – not unusual in a day of a ferry skipper.
